Walker Turner bench top drill press, series 900. 1/2 HP, 1725 RPM, Ball Bearing Walker Turner Driver Line motor. 4 speed step pulley (giving 600, 1250, 2440, 5000) (does not have optional intermediate pulley for lower speeds). Has Albrecht style keyless chuck, no name visible, 0 – 1/2 inch, works well.
No S/N found, research on Vintagemachinery.org indicates date of manufacture is likely about 1940. The badge on the front column has no place for a S/N (later badges contain the serial number). Could possibly be late 1939, but not likely to be earlier as the quill raising handle and the main table are both the 1940 version.
This drill press came from the estate of my wife's uncle, fondly remembered as "Uncle Rich". He was a machinist by trade, though severe petroleum allergies forced his retirement from industry. It is not known when he acquired this drill press.
I have cleaned and oiled, installed a new switch and 3-wire power cord (added ground connection in motor electrical box), and fabricated a belt cover (from wood) similar to original design.
