When found, the "hook" part of the treadle was missing and had been replaced with a piece of plywood and the first part of that coming off the rear square shaft was broken. Made patterns and had these cast at Cattail and them machined them. While the Barnes #3 velocipede wood lathe is nice to operate sitting and pedaling, this style also runs very well. Note the chips in the pictures. This design is very similar to other foot powered lathes. The flywheel has a weight on it so it always stops in the correct position to start treading! Refinished the table and repainted all the parts and made a new leather belt. A J Wilkinson likely had somebody else make this. I did note there were no oiling holes in the legs for the flywheel shaft or the rear square shaft. Amazing what a little oil will do!! She runs like a watch now!! Here is a link to a YouTube video on this lathe! https://youtu.be/0VcB-_AlzlY More information on foot powered machinery can be found on my website at www.footpoweredmachinery.com
