Comments:
Spotted locally. I tried but failed to inspect and buy this press. Unlike the other two shown here under Vico this one features the company name prominently cast into the head. The discovery of this model in late 2019 allowed us to subsequently (and retroactively) identify the other two as Vico presses even though they lack all identification. Besides the name this one incorporates several features that the other two presses lack or solved differently, suggesting (to me) an eye toward cost cutting, streamlining the production process, and/or a slightly later time period. The two knobs we can see appear to be aluminum as opposed to the five-lobed cast iron ones on the other two presses. The red ‘Saturn’ knobs show up on other tools, by other manufacturers (DeWalt...) in the early fifties. The mechanism which attaches the depth stop assembly to the quill is not cast. Unfortunately the only two photos I have don’t show much else.
