Comments:
I acquired this machine from an estate sale. It was missing the side guard, the drive drum guard, the tension ball crank, two of four special jam nuts on the idler shaft, and had a misfit tracking screw. The cast iron base pieces were strewn about in different places to be sold separately from each other, apparently, as steam-punk items, presumably because nobody knew what they were. The main base pieces were there except the parts to join them all together. All the missing parts were acquired, including a new idler shaft to replace the badly worn original, all of which transformed the very affordable, initial machine acquisition price into a not-so-meager final restoration price. I removed rust from the platen and table by electrolysis. Surface rust and sloppy, flaky paint from P.O. was removed. I repaired and corrected the worn tension screw that stuck out proud of the platen, crowned the drive drum (idler was fine), and primed and painted with Sherwin-Williams all-purpose enamel. This is powered by a Delta 1 hp 3400 rpm repulsion-induction shaper motor that I also cleaned, painted, and provided new bearings for.
