Walker-Turner wood lathe model 5110, serial number 0000969. I have owned this machine for over twenty years, it last saw service in a high school shop class before I bought it. The machine had a Driver Line 1/2 HP motor that stopped running, I had it repaired and it only lasted a few months and quit again. The lathe sat idle for several years until I decided this year to try to get it working again. I could not find a 1/2 HP motor that would fit the lathe motor mounts, so I bought a 1 HP Baldor motor with a 56H frame that fit without requiring modification to the mounts. I did have to lengthen the shaft that is used to loosen/tighten the belt tension because the Baldor motor is much longer than the original. I made two new maple shelves for the lathe, added a new push button switch, stripped the old "green" paint off the machine (it had been brush painted green) and repainted. I did not know how to remove the headstock bearings, so I did not attempt to remove them for fear of damaging them. The bearings are still in good condition though. I do not know when this machine was manufactured, my guess would be very early 1950's.
