Garage sale finds many years ago. The 6380 is a surface planer. The box says Dewalt division of B&D and has 3/81 printed on the bottom, although the design is unchanged from the AMF 1950s versions. It mounts to the 5/8 arbor in lieu of the saw blade, not the 1/2 inch power take-off. Unfortunately for me, the threads are somewhat stripped, so it will start to spin on the arbor shaft with anything but the lightest of cuts; a previous owner probably tried to hog off too much material at once.
The 6480 two knife shaper head was sold under that part number in the 1950s AMF era and the 1960s-1970s B&D period. This one does not look like the older examples in the posted 50s and 60s catalogs, so I’m guessing it to be a 1970s redesign. Since I bought both items at the same sale I’m using the 1981 date for this as well. This monster weighs two pounds and has no safety features to limit how big a bite the blades can take. I’ve never had the need (or the nerve) to use it.
The 6380 came with an instruction sheet, which I have uploaded to the publications reprints.
