My middle school shop teacher gave this machine to me in the early 1990's. When I got the machine, it had no motor and the idler drum was completely locked up. There were no belts with it and no sanding disks. I painted the stand and the machine, cleaned and re-lubricated the bearings and fit a 1/3 horse motor on it from my parent's old heating system. The motor is a little underpowered and the 5510 manual listed on this site recommends at least a half horse motor. It's not bad but if I find a more powerful motor that would work, I'll switch it out. I use this machine in my shop and it works very well but does vibrate the disk sanding table a bit too much for me. When the belt is taken off it runs pretty smooth and I haven't been able to adjust it to run smoother. I guess there are just some things you have to learn to live with.
I made a functional fence for the belt sander but plan to make a better one for it someday or find an original replacement. If you are reading this and have one that you'd like to get rid of, let me know.
After looking at the 5510 manual on this site, I do notice some differences between my machine and the parts breakdown but they are not very significant. I'm not sure if it is a model 5510 or not as there is no model number listed on the machine. I do however have the serial number stamped in the tag on the front which reads 13639.
