Comments:
I bought this jointer for $250 from an old gentleman in Harrisburg, PA who had it advertised in the local newspaper. It was a great find. The person bought it new in 1975 and only used it for about three years. He then got sick with some lung desease and put the jointer in storage at his house for 27 years without any use during this time. He decided to sell it in August 2005 and luckily I saw the ad in the paper.

The serial number is 1592253 which indicates 1974 according to the OWWM Delta page on serial numbers and it corresponds with the date the person said he bought it. I did a complete disassembly down to every little screw and after cleaning and removing rust I repainted it. I could not find the Rustomleum Dark Machinery Grey paint at the local hardware stores, so I used Rustoleum Smoke Grey instead and I found it very close to the orginal Delta color.

It has the orginal Rockwell motor which was in excellent condition due to the closed stand. The only part missing is the rear blade guard. I replaced all the bearings and had the knives sharpened a local grinding shop. I spend one whole evening setting my first jointer knives (no lifting screws...), but it all was well worth the effort, because the jointer is producing beautiful wood shavings with a surface so smooth it hardly needs sanding. I needed a mobile base, but did not have the $$ at this stage for a new base, so I constructed a very simple base from 2x4's and caster wheels and it works very well.

This was my first restouration and I found it extremely satisfying.
