I don't know much about the original history of this machine other than my dad purchased it in the late forty's or early fifty's after it was scrapped out of one of the GM plants so the story goes. It has numbers stamped on the table but I'm not sure which is the actual serial number. We manufactured bearing liners of all sizes for Indiana Gear Works who built gear boxes for Sikorsky Helicopters. Every liner that was manufactured in our shop had its outside diameter ground on this old Norton Grinder. We still use the grinder occasionally to grind a shaft or some small job and it is still very accurate. I've tried to research this on the internet but haven't found one that looks exactly like this. I'll post more info later. Forgot to mention the Grinding Wheel when new is approximately 24" x 2-1/2" and is driven by an 8" wide laced leather belt. I'm assuming original it was a line shaft machine and converted to electric motor. Hopefully one of you can help me out.
