I inherited this from my grandfather, who lived in Brooklyn, NY from the depression into the 1990's. There's a plaque riveted on the machine identifying the retailer as "Rudolf Bass Machinery-Supplies" with an address on Lafayette Street, New York, NY
According to the wiki on this website -- http://wiki.vintagemachinery.org/DeltaSerialNumbers.ashx -- the style of the serial number badge on this machine was introduced in 1947, and the manufacture of these moved to Pittsburgh in 1952-53. So based on that, I'm guessing this is of that vintage.
The format of the serial number itself doesn't seem to conform to what other people have on their similar machines. Mine is a single letter followed by a four-digit number, no dashes. I guess on some machines a letter can correspond to a month of manufacture, but the "W" on mine is not listed as a month on the wiki page. So I don't know what's going on there.
Any information or insight is welcome. Thanks.
