Comments:
Purchased this machine from the original owner, Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, IA. It was part of the original carpenters shop.
The machine had been submerged during the devastating Mid-west floods of 1993. To Merediths credit, they had the machine restored, though it was rarely used from that point on.
I worked as a designer for Meredith from 2010 -2014 and spent time in the carpenters shop prototyping designs. I was amazed at the physical mass of the machine. The 316 was powered and was amazingly quiet for its size compared to the Delta DJ-20 I owned.
I began building a new shop in 2018, and I wanted to replace my DJ-20 with a wider bed jointer. I called the facility manager, who i'd known from my time at the company, and asked it they'd ever consider selling the jointer. Unexpectedly, he said sure and ask me to make him and offer. All i had to do was move it and wire it. Easy enough...
I been polishing the beds and fence parts recently. I feel lucky to be able to put this amazing machine to use and I hope it will run for another 70+ years.
