Comments:
I acquired this lathe at a flea market in east central Pa. Wicks Brothers worked in New York in the middle 1800s making machinery. My research shows Wicks Brothers left New York in 1854 to relocate in Flint Michigan to be closer to the logging industry as they had been specializing in machinery for the logging industry. This lathe is nowhere near that old. I am thinking early 1900s so they must have retained some operations in New York into the 1900s.
This lathe has 3 1/2 inches from the bed to center of the head stock and 16 inches between centers. The brass rod in the chuck was in it when I got the lathe. It must be what the craftsman was working on when he walked away from the lathe years ago.
Wicks Brothers has evolved into what today is Wicks Lumber
