Comments:
This base was seen on craigslist Vermont. Thanks to Richard Inlow for bringing it to my attention, and the sellers, John & Mark Goyette, for giving us permission to reproduce their photos here.

The planer guts are long gone. The base last saw use under a lathe. The base only says, "Guilford, N. Y.", no "A. Bradbury" on the left side. My best guess is that this example is an early one, from the time the planer-matcher was introduced in 1856 to the death of business co-owner and superintendent N. R. Merchant in 1863. After that time Bradbury became superintendent so I'm guessing that's when he put his name on the planer-matcher that he had designed.
