This Duro 3053 wood lathe belonged to my grandfather, Benedict Benco. Benedict was a union carpenter (Local 1027 Mill/Cabinet-Chicago) by trade. He purchased it in the early 1950's and used it in his home shop until his death in 1990. The machine passed to my father and then to me. When I received the lathe, I restored it. Based on sales brochures I found on this website, it appears the machine was built around 1940.
I believe that the "53" in the serial number refers to model 3053 and not to 1935. It has a rare tool rest made by E.O. Partridge and takes a New Departure 88504A19 bearing (difficult to find).
