Craigslist Ad Images. Who, what, when, where, unknown. Maybe Jeff J. will know?

[ADMIN NOTE, REVISED: "CVS" is Chicago Vocational School. We do not have any information on when these drill presses were made, but we presume that making them was once part of the curriculum.

CVS, with a planned capacity of 6000 students, was supposed to opened in September 1938, and then September 1940, but it seems that the school remained idle. In June of 1941 the school was turned over to the Navy. A class 594 public-school students started in September '41; at the same time the school was training naval aviation mechanics at the rate of a new class every 4 months. During the war the school also trained numerous students for work in war production. In about June 1942 the entire school was dedicated to naval training and the civil vocational training was moved to Calumet High School. CVS, meanwhile, was so busy that classes ran 24 hours a day. In February 1946 CVS resumed its role as a civilian school. For a time the 24-hours-per-day schedule continued as the school helped train returning veterans. The school remains today as part of the Chicago Public Schools system.

Thanks to Bob Poole for researching these CVS machines!]
