I bought this machine off Craigslist . It was north of Milwaukee so a 3 hour drive each way but fair price. The serial number on the main casting is 4774 which would put it in the 1929 to 1930 range according to the serial number table at Union Hill Antique Tools website found here https://finetools.com/pages/w-f-john-barnes-company-woodworking-machinery . All the castings are in perfect condition without repairs including the lions feet. The motor is a Jeannin repultion induction motor 110v 1/8 hp 8 amp, but the motor plate has a diagram for running 220v at 4 amps. The motor shaft runs through what must be babbit? then has an open end on the shaft where a collet the same size as your auger bit shank goes and is held by a set screw. You can see the grease cup on the front of the babbit collar. The lower collar hold the hollow chisel with a set screw. The table tilts right or left by adjusting a nut on the front and adjusts up and down by the handle on the back. The machine has a stroke just over 3". The cord looks new but the rotary switch looks original. There was none of the pinstripping as found on some of the other Barnes mortisers.
