Late one evening mid-November '05 I was poking around wit' my mushroom huntin' stick and found a listing for an auction. "Five Crescent bandsaws" the sale bill said. Called auctioneer. "What size?" "Oh, they're big....real big".
Went to look at them at Pontiac IL. A furniture co. had gone bankrupt. Actually, 3 of the saws were Crescent, one BM Root, and one, maybe an Atlantic.
Decided to bid on one and it followed me home Monday the 28th. Actually, 3 Crescents followed me home; 2 stayed at my place and another - a 40" angle saw! -- went on its way with Dick Streff who captured it and took it home to Omaha. (For more of the story, see "Pontiac Bandsaw Bonanaza" in archives. Dick wrote a fine account of the adventure.) The Delta 50-180 dust collector seen in photo 1 was included in the lot.
Bidding was less than enthusiastic. Many of the other bidders were scrap dealers. I got the saw and collector for $100. It needs tires and some clean up. I also got an older Crescent 36" saw for parts, mainly. (see photo 2 here and details posted for Crescent 36" #14641) It was quite an experience getting it in the garage/shop but all is well and it's resting for now.
Photo 3 shows Dick standing next to my new/old piece of arn. Note how much bigger the angle saw to the right- with upper wheel assembly removed- is than the "little 36" saw.
