This is an example of a Crescent/Stamets 36-inch Band Sawing, Filing & Polishing Machine. This machine was introduced around 1958 (see article in this newsletter: http://www.owwm.com/pubs/detail.asp?id=1361) and was basically designed based on the very popular Delta/Crescent 20" Band Saw. Rockwell actually designed this saw but never put it into production. When Enterprise (Stamets) accquired the Crescent line in the early 1950's, they also obtained this machine. When the government requested bids for a similar saw, Enterprise dusted the cobwebs off of the Rockwell designed machine, made some improvments and got the contract to product this band saw.
