Picked up the J. A. Fay & Egan 24" planer at a local auction for around $360. There is some history of the company on this site. Initially, all bearings, except the feed rollers, were babbitt. I have sinced retrofitted the planer with ball bearings on the cutterhead so it can run at 4000 rpm. It now sports a new double angle, 4 blade cutterhead. This has reduce the noise level considerably. My intent when I picked this up was to make a more usable machine, not a complete restore job.
