Since my last post of my saw, I've stripped, cleaned, primed, and painted the stand and saw carriage. It took a lot of work with an air die grinder with wire wheels and Gator Grit sanding wheels, plus some wire brushes, to get 60 years of gunk, rust, and old paint off to bare metal. I managed to save the old patent sticker on the dust port of the carriage. As far as the metal depth gauge and logo plate, I masked them off with blue painter's tape. When the paint had dried sufficiently, I removed the tape and cleaned the plates with 0000 grit steel wool and mineral spirits. They cleaned up quite nice!! I'm currently working on the belt guard (it's completely stripped) and will be primed and painted this evening. Normally, I like to strip/clean every single piece, paint it all at once, and assemble all at once. However, due to space limitations right now, I'm doing a couple of pieces at a time and then assembling them as they're complete. Wish I would've done it this way with previous machines, as it's much easier and I come up with fewer "extra" parts at the end of a restoration. I'm looking for a guard plate (which screws onto the blade side of the carriage.) If anyone out there has a spare or a source I could perhaps purchase one, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know. My e-mail address is enolson484@gmail.com.
