I picked up this grinder off of eBay. The grinder was dirty and a little beat, but was complete. The grinder itself is a model #23-200. Instead of the normal sheet metal end guards, it has the optional cast iron end guards. Working on these old machines has forced me to relearn a lot about the electrical aspect of equipment. The big thing I learned however is to never trust what the guy did to a machine before you got it... that could be electrical or mechanical or both! When I got it, the grinder seemed to run fine. I guess I should have left it at that, but the line cord seemed a little ragged, so I decided to replace it. When I took the grinder off the stand, I found the original toggle switch (which was broken) connected to the lights and starter capacitor just hanging there. Some how this didn't seem right and sure enough, it wasn't. Thanks to Mike Milner, who provided me the wiring diagrams for this grinder, I was able to return everything to factory condition. The lights in the safety shields and the motor operate separately and independantly of each other. The 24V LVC pushbutton switch on the pedestal column controls the motor operation while the toggle switch in the grinder base controls the lights.
