I picked this up a couple years ago with the idea that I would add a variable speed DC motor. That idea died pretty quickly though. As a birthday present to myself I drove the 4 hours south to the quad cities and picked it up. It was in pretty rough shape at the time. The return spring was broken and the bearings were shot. I stripped it down to parts and replaced all the bearings with modern equivalents and the return spring. I've been working on a table/fence setup for the drill press and converted it to a keyed chuck. The Garage Journal Forum's Craftsman Drill Press thread has been invaluable source of information for getting this machine restored. Sorry I'm missing so many pictures of the process.

Just after I got it home with the DC motor and controller I picked up on the same trip. I decided against using the motor for this application and went with a 1/2 hp Craftsman motor from the early 40's

Mostly finished. I picked up the legs as part of another project. I assumed they were from a 1940's craftsman table saw base. However I found out later that these are likely from something else entirely.

You can see in this picture the base on the left (under the band saw) is the stand I thought the legs I used originated. Having them side by side they are obviously not the same design. I'm working on adding the table/fence right now.
