This lathe is at the Silver Stream Railway, a 3/4 mile vintage steam railway located in the Hutt Valley, Wellington, New Zealand.

Yet another lovely old Dean Smith and Grace (the "Rolls Royce" of metal lathes) 17" lathe. It is believed to have been obtained from New Zealand Railways, some years ago.

The lathe has 18 speeds: 9.8, 13.4; 17.3; 22.5, 31; 40; 51; 70; & 90r.p.m. in "slow", and 98, 134; 173; 225, 310; 400; 510; 700; & 900r.p.m. in "fast". There are also six speeds in reverse: 17.3; 40; & 90r.p.m. in "slow", and 173; 400; & 900r.p.m. in "fast".
