I'm not at liberty to say where this drill press is. Sufficient to say it's in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand.
The plant where this is located dates back to 1937, and I suspect this may be part of the original equipment. Edit: I now have confirmation that this drill press came from another building owned by the same company.
With the original motor and five-step pulleys, the press had speeds from 110 to 1780 r.p.m. - however it now appears to have a newer motor with 4-step pulley.
The drill is fitted with self-feed. To operate, the black knob to the right of the spindle is pushed in. To dis-engage, the small lever to the right of the knob is lifted.
It was hard to establish who made this drill press, but two things confirmed it's a B. Elliott & Co. machine. First was above the serial number it says "B.E.C. M/C No." - BEC almost certainly being B. Elliot & Co. (refer photo 6). Second was the discovery of a second "Progress" drill press at the same plant - this time with a B. Elliott & Co. tag.
