Comments:

The original owner of this grinder was the Walter Tips Co. of Austin, TX. It was given to me by my father-in-law, their warehouse supervisor, when the starting switch failed and repair parts were no longer available. It now has a motor run capacitor in place of the failed switch. The Tips family opened their hardware business in Texas in 1857. The hardware store eventually branched out into other areas such as heavy machinery and leather and wood trappings for horse drawn vehicles. The Tips Foundry & Machine Company was created to service machinery. In the 1900s a division started building engines. The company went out of business in the late 1990's.
