My Dad purchased this machine new and in a sealed box from Sears in Moline, Illinois sometime between 1970 and 1978. He used this jointer often, both in his work as a carpenter / home builder and in his hobby as a wood worker. Due to his age and failing health, the jointer sat unused in his garage for 15 to 20 years. Shortly before his death in 2006 I asked my Dad if I could have the jointer; he laughed and asked me what I was going to do with it and I told him that when I retired I was planning to play with power tools in my garage. I brought the jointer home and it sat in my garage for a year or so when I finally pulled out and took a look at it. I had to rewire the power switch as it was electrically unsafe, but the machine runs great and I use it often in my shop. I ordered a new set of knives for it this week as the original are still on there and are all of a sudden not doing a very good job of cutting. This machine has never had any repairs or parts replaced on it up to this point in time. I wish machines - and everything else we all purchase on a daily basis - were still made like this jointer: Rock solid and ready to work!
