This motor came to me on a Wadkin recessor (a woodworking machine) but I don't believe it is original to the machine.
It came from a factory in Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand, where it had been used as a drill press since its acquisition 7 years earlier. I have no history previous to that.
The bearings need replacement. At this time I don't know if I will put it back on the recessor (or use another motor).
The machine it came off went into production in the early 1920s, and I would guess was built (as a line belt machine) around 1922 to 1925. F & A Parkinson became Crompton - Parkinson in 1927. Assuming it was brand new when fitted to the recessor, I would suggest the motor was manufactured during the mid to late 1920s.
Edit (16th November, 2018): Upon receipt of a copy of the original Wadkin & Co. test sheet, I see the recessor was fitted with a motor fitting the same description as this one, when tested at the Wadkin factory on 1st September, 1925. I now believe this is the original motor (but originally located at ground level).
It is a 2 h.p.; 940 r.p.m.; 3-phase; 400volt; 50 hz; 4 amp, motor.
