I came across this saw completely by chance. I just happened to pick up the classifieds and looked through the tool section and there was an ad for a Clausing cabinet saw. I had seen pictures of them before and was always curious about them. I went and took a look at it and bought it on the spot. It seems to be every bit as good as a Unisaw, plus it is left tilt and has a tres cool arbor tilt indicator.
This saw has the original 1 1/2 hp motor, as well as the original fence, miter gauge, and blade guard. It also has the motor cover, which was optional. The original price for this saw, with the included equipment, was $471.70 -- a lot of money back then. I bought it from the son of the original owner.
From what I've been able to determine, Atlas/Clausing introduced this saw in 1956, and the first ones were badged with the Clausing name. By 1959, they were apparently being badged as Atlas saws. Atlas also made the same saw with the DeWalt name on it. Because of the fairly low serial number on this saw, I'm guessing that it was built in 1956 or 57, but that's just a guess. I would be interested in sharing information with anyone else who has one of these saws, or the Altas/DeWalt-badged version.
