This drill press was in a tool shop called Moldmaster starting about 1976 when the company came into existence. I started work there in 1980. This machine was in daily use until 1996 when it was taken out of service and 3 brand new radial drills were purchased. (drills then under the Rockwell name)
This and another radial drill were sold off to employees on a blind auction, and I won both. They sat in storage for a couple of years and a co worker remembered that I had them when he opened up a business. I sold them to him. He used them for a couple of years and then discontinued his business and put them into storage. Fast forward 10 years and he gives me a call and asks if I am interested in buying one of them back. I said sure and purchased the worst looking of the two. He didn't want to sell the other just yet.
When to his storage shed and picked this one up. Heavier than I remember. This one has a non original base, just as it was in the original shop all those years ago.
It does run, but bearings are noisy and will need replaced. It's got some slop in the arm, but should be able to adjust the bearings to tighten it up. Overall it's in decent shape.
The quill will need bearing also, and one of the step pulleys is missing on the motor. It also had a corner of the coolant trough broken off. I do have the piece to re attach.
it has the original Driver Line 1/2 hp motor.
