My son-in-law requested I find him a small belt sander without a sanding disk attached. This machine immediately came to mind. I had purchased a drill press from an individual who has a collection of Delta tools and asked if might have one for sale and he did. The machine had been well used and required all new idler pulleys and a new drive wheel. Found the idlers on eBay, made a 3.5" rubber coated cast iron drive wheel out of a HBT caster on my lathe. The drive bearing was dry and after trying to repack it, not that happy with the results, I elected to search out a new one put it in. These are old style automotive water pump bearings modified with a flat on each of the shafts. The sander did not have a platen when I bought it, I had to make one on my mill using 1/8" steel. Modified the wiring and put an on/off switch under the table. Not a bad little sander after a weeks worth of work.
