Purchased this saw from a nice furniture restorer in East Texas. He has owned and used the saw for his business since 1977. Though he just upgraded to a vintage Powermatic 66, he said he "would miss that Delta". I'm proud to have it.
This saw is a beast and has several unique design features I've never seen in a contractor saw: thick gauge chassis sheet metal, beefy cast iron table and under table assemblies and a a large rear trunnion frame that also serves as the rear mounting points. The original motor is still going strong but unlike most contractor saws, does not tilt for angle cuts; instead, the motor pulley slides along the massive, slotted motor shaft (with a little help perhaps). Everything is heavy and definitely not a one man carry even off the stand. Oh yes, the classic flare-foot stand is in great shape and also adds considerable weight. Original miter gauge and fence are present and should clean up nicely. Don't know if I can say the same about the angle/name plate but we'll see.
If this proves to be a regularly used saw, I may build some table extensions. I don't believe Delta offered them as an option and the absence of mounting holes in the table seem to confirm that. EDIT: Well, so much for my attention to detail. Now I see there are mounting holes on the right side of the table so perhaps there is hope to find an original extension.
Cool saw.
