Comments:
this 71 year old lathe was donated to a high school from a student whose grandfather had passed around 2014 or 15. A new teacher took over a stem program, changed up his shop and wanted it gone, or he was going to scrap it. I was found to take this away. This "Powr-Kraft" engine lathe by Logan is in amazing shape. ((All the gears are sharp and all metal is shiny!!)) It sat for years in the high school, and it was meticulously taken care of by its owner. Very interestingly the serial # is a capital W. The normal 4 digit nomenclature on most machines is not evident. I called logan, which is still supported, and a gentleman stated that it must of left the factory without being marked, or that the bed was reground??. I thought it was made by an employee and taken home. Logan guy disagreed. It is one of the earliest made of this model. 1946. Sold under Montgomery Wards in Chicago, also made in Chicago, found in Chicago. Came complete the motor and counter wheel. Nothing missing. Any speculation as to the serial letter would be greatly appreciated.

This is the only montgomery ward lathe represented with the quick change gear box. Uber Deluxe. This variation is not in any of the catalogs listed here as well. although the gear box can be ordered as an extra. I am thinking this is a factory prototype, or a demo/display model. any thoughts would be appreciated.
