Comments:
Acquired through Ashman Co. online auction. I was able to do an onsite pre-bid preview. Shop owner's father was the previous owner & said machine ran fine & held good tolerance. Machine moves fine in all directions. The 60 came with a many attachments, but not all that show available according to the "Universal Tool & Cutter Grinder" documentation downloaded for this manufacturer. That download solidified my resolve to purchase this machine - as long as it was for the right price.
The brass tag on the coolant motor shows:
U.S.N.
93040
000595-2
This leads me to believe the U.S. Navy was the original purchaser. Perhaps this machine saw duty at Mare Island, Alameda, or maybe on-board somewhere in the Pacific.
Top riveted tag on machine face shows:
MFR 23990
Bottom riveted tag on machine face shows:
SCC 3415 7140 7201
If anyone can help me find a way to use these tag numbers to determine where this machine saw service, that would be fantastic. Perhaps this machine played a small part in helping US defeat the Japanese in the Pacific.
This is not an overly complicated machine, and it looks like it can be restored with a lot of labor but not a whole lot of technical expertise. I want to use this web site to help me acquire any & all info, parts & knowledge I can regarding this and some other machines I have. As I inventory what I have for this machine I hope to photo, identify & post it all. If anyone has anything for this machine they are willing to sell - trade - donate please let me know. I ultimately hope to restore this machine and accumulate all parts, attachments & literature possible. Please help if you can. Thanks.......
