This DP was spotted in a nearby Craigslist for sale post. I wasn't able to buy (wasn't quick enough to get to the front of the line), but I did capture the seller's set of photos to upload here as this unit has some nice details which help to pinpoint it as being from the first year of production of this 900 series. If you can get your eyes to look past the "Clown Colors", there are some very interesting details here worth checking out.
Note the base ("Patent Pending"). In this year and 1937 the same base was used for the floor model as for the bench top model. In 1937 the round base was offered as an option, and starting in 1938 the round base became standard issue.
This single voltage motor was designed to be used with this reversing switch. That combination was desirable if you wanted the option to run shaper bits in your DP. (Shaper bits, a shaper fence, a mortising setup, etc., all were optional items at that time. Manufacturers worked hard at selling the versatility of their machines in that era.)
This DP has the early style depth stop setup.
(The head is setup with hinge pins at the top of the spindle pulley guard where a rear belt guard would mount, but I don't see that rear guard listed as an option in the catalogs. Just a curious detail.)
