Acquired this lathe at an auction at Wm. Redmond & Sons (an Atlanta, GA wood working machinery dealer)late 2002. Restoration now complete. I did a complete tear down and replaced all bearings and belts and acquired the missing parts from a myriad of sources.
A note to those of you that haven't removed the spindle before: There is a set screw in the center of the variable speed pulley locking it to the spindle. You have to spread the pulley apart somewhat to get to the screw. This set screw does not show up in the parts diagrams. I scratched most of the hair off my head before I figured that out.
The lathe was fairly noisy until I replaced the variable speed drive belt. That made a world of difference. The old one looked OK but had a flat spot on it that was not readily visible, but made the VS drive quite noisy.
Original paint color was matched at Sherwin-Williams. I used their Industrial Enamel. Since my lathe was of 1960 vintage it was Powermatic's early lighter green, not the later metallic dark green or more recent gold. S-W formula: Ultra Deep Base B54T104, B1-25, G2 2Y40, Y3-2Y10, W1-2Y1, R2-6+11.
