I just became the proud owner of this late 1930s Drill press. Found on Craiglist, I was told that this was owned by a local guy, would handed it down to the son, and then the grandson, and then purchased by the PO. It looks to have the original motor, and there is no noticable runout that I can see. There have been some "upgrades" at some point, where a different power switch was wired and mounted to the head case. And someone fashioned a real heavy duty rear cover for the pulleys. There is also flat steel plate screwed to the tilt table.
There is no evidence of a serial number plate, but my research on Delta badges leads me to believe that this has a 1937 manufacture date. The odd thing is that it also has a tab for the retirement light, which I thought was only on the 1936 models. Or maybe I'm wrong?8
I plan to disassemble and restore the drill before I put it into service. The first thing to go is that horrible Pond Scum green paint. I'd appreciate it if anyone can tell me what the original color should be. I also need to find the quill pointer, which seems to be the only piece that's missing.
