Found an add for a 13" delta planer on CL and went to look at it. It was in reasonable shape, but the owner also had a 18" planer for sale. The 18" planer came with a knife grinding attachment and an extra side casting that provided the option of mounting the 3 HP motor single phase on the other side, converting it to a belt drive. The worm gear was in excellent shape. The planer was heavily coated with LPS and there is hardly any rust on it. All placards were there. I couldn't resist and I may have overbought! It may be a while before restoration, I have to find a spot to park it first, it is quite heavy, I am guessing 800 to 1000 lbs.
Finally got around to finishing the planer. It took about 6 weeks of work at my pace. Bead blasted all the rollers then polished them up. All new bearings except two in the feed gearbox, a total of 12. Replaced most of the hardware with Stainless Steel, Some had to be made on the lathe. Found some 600W oil out of a Model A Specialty parts store in Ohio. It cost more to ship the quart of oil that the oil itself.
Thanks again to Bob Vaughan for all of his help, instructional videos, and specialty tools, they were great!
And YES, IT DOES CUT WOOD!
