This saw was recently acquired at a machinery sale of old metal working machines. It appears to be fully intact and perhaps even usable with a little clean-up work. Most likely this saw was motorized some time long after production. The motor set-up (General Electric ¼ hp washing machine motor) powers a gear-drive jackshaft that drives the large flat pulley thru belts. The saw model, “Q & C Shop Saw No. 1”, was first produced in 1897. Duration of production is unknown. The original manufacturer, The Q and C Company of Chicago, was consolidated into another company in the very early 1900’s. Below is an illustration of this saw from Q and C’s 1898 catalog.
