I found this DP on eBay which I ordinarily do not care to do. It required a 500 mile round trip to Paso Robles to pick it up. The sellers were the daughter and widow of the former owner so don't know if he was the original owner or just a previous owner. It is missing the original motor and the plate and shaft for the belt cover raising mechanism. The drill press came with the high speed pulley and is equipped with the table raising mechanism and a reversing drum switch, and is in very good condition. The table has very few imperfections, the bearings sound good and there appears to be very little runout. As the DP is missing the serial number tag, it's impossible to say when it was manufactured but the spacing of the drive screw holes and the front badge suggests that it is pre-1948.
