No back story on this machine. It came up for auction about an hours' drive away. I thought the winning price was reasonable (but I didn't count on the non-negotiable loading fee! Oh well, that's on me).
The overarm is 2" diameter. Maximum distance from the middle of the arbor to the table is 6-5/8". With the handle on the x-axis, the maximum travel is just under 6" (without repositioning the handle).
This particular example has lever feed for the head and x-axis, but a micrometer feed on the y-axis. It looks to be a 3/4"-10 acme drive, and I'm thinking of making an x-axis feed. (I contacted Leland-Gifford and the parts are more than I'm willing to pay.)
This one also has a low-speed pulley setup. With a 1725RPM motor, the low speed should be about 120RPM. Sadly, the smallest step on the idler is broken off. The step pulley on the idler is bolted to the large pulley and rides on a needle bearing insert. It requires a solid step pulley to support the internal idler shaft (2-3/4" bore at large pulley and 1-1/2" bore over the bearing assembly). Takes 5L / B-section belts.
