Comments:
This Craftsman Parks made 18" band saw was acquired in June 2014 from another vintage machine junkie buddy of mine in Austin Texas. He acquired this band saw around 2002 in San Fransisco, CA and it made the move with him to Central Texas. This saw has not been used much over the years and was in very good original condition when I got it. My plans were to keep this BEAUTIFUL band saw in my shop but another friend on mine in Austin who makes guitars wanted it for his shop so BAD that I did a complete tear down restoration on it for him. This band saw was blasted/sanded down to bare metal on the all outside metal as the original single part enamel had "rust creep" under the paint even though it still looked somewhat respectable. Band Saw was all primed and sprayed out in dark gray Awl Grip two part polyurethane top coat. All internal casting parts were also painted in Awl Grip. Original Craftsman name plate was sprayed in clear Awl Grip. I made a new polished heavy gauge aluminum blade guard for this band saw since D.C. Morrison wanted $60 plus tax/shipping for a very ugly yellow sheet metal version. Shop made table insert from plastic laminated (Formica) plywood. Made 4 shop made silicon bronze blade guides... again, D.C. Morrison wanted $67 plus tax/shipping for EACH mild steel blade guide. Installed new Carter 18" rubber tires and high quality Japanese made neoprene sealed bearings, wheels are an aluminum alloy casting and were factory crowned by Parks. Installed a new Gates Hi-Power 46" belt, the lower wheel arbor pulley is a very nice cast iron machine balanced Browning pulley. Added all new electrical cord/wiring and a nice vintage Westinghouse Motor 30 amp "Snap Switch". Added a lower tire brush and a small vintage Intermediate base switched light under the lower wheel. Motor used is a vintage (late 1960's-early 70's) Dayton Electric "Farm Duty" 1-HP TEFC 1725 rpm motor I had on hand I installed new sealed National bearings, new capacitor and contact starter. I also added a NICE vintage blue Craftsman logo miter gauge I had on hand.

Price in 1957 Craftsman Power Tool Catalog was $270 (Cash w/o Motor)
