This machine came out of the Columbia Brewing Co. building in The Dalles, Oregon. I purchased it from the fellow who cleaned out the building. It is complete and in fairly decent shape though it needs plenty of cleaning up and tuning.
I picked pre-1893 because the 1893 J.A. Fay catalog uploaded here by Dan Warner, includes a similar Patent Mortiser but with a cam-action feature that is described there as a means of increasing the speed/force of the plunge function that this one does not include.
