I had been looking for a reasonably priced 270 to restore for my dad. He had been wanting one to replace his Unisaw. I found this machine from a Government auction in Nevada at a fair price. It was in pretty rough shape but it had the blade guard and the original fence so I figured I couldn't get hurt too bad. While the truck driver who delivered it thought I was nuts for shipping that pile of rust I was actually pleased as the saw was pretty complete and in good shape other than spending a winter outside in the high desert between Susanville, CA and Reno NV. Unfortunately not long after I bought this machine my Dad was diagnosed with cancer. The cancer is cured now but it has left him so weak he didn't feel it was worth moving the saw into his shop. Fortunately I have already found a fellow OWWM'er who has decided he can put it to use. The saw came without the blade cover door, hinge, and lock knob/cam. It's a long story that has been told elsewhere but the parts were replaced with ones cast at the Cattail foundry in PA using another OWWM'ers 270 door and hardware as patterns. The miter gauges did not come with the saw, they were found at an IRS auction. This saw cuts so smooth it is amazing. I measured the runout at the blade just below the teeth and it was less than 0.003. The design of the 270 allows for great dust collection as all the dust is directed right out the back. All in all it is a nice saw to use.
