After picking up a Red Star RAS from Al Mosero in Hazlet, NJ, I stopped off at Bill Kerfoot's place in historic Hopewell, PA (Where they made lots of iron - see http://www.nps.gov/hofu/home.html for more info). There I picked up another *bay purchase - a 20" Rockwell/Delta bandsaw. Like a lot of the arn we have, this one came from a school - a real solid machine with little usage. Other than tweaking with the wiring a bit, it is ready to go. The trip home was uneventful - taking some cues from the department of reduncancy department, I used lots of extra straps to anchor the bandsaw, and all went well. Of course, all could not go so smoothly forever. The minute I pulled into the driveway, it started to rain. After covering up the machines, I decided to unload anyway, since the forecasts called for unending rain that afternoon and I had to get the truck back. I am a one-guy operation using an engine lift to unload. For most pieces that works fine; the height of the bandsaw made it a challenge. After removing table and trunions to make sure they didn't get damaged, I unloaded both saws. Other than getting a good soaking, I now have them in the shop.
