Comments:
Details of the Lucius W. Pond hand lathe for woodturning. Photos show the headstock bearings and the headstock end bracket bearing possibly used for a crank axle treadle or flat belt drive wheel component. Note the ball bearing at the end of the tailpin at the end of the headstock. The ball has a separate oil hole. The corresponding tapped bearing pieces can be seen sitting on the pulley assembly. Tightening the tail bolt takes up play in the headstock and fixes the drive spindle when stock is loaded and being turned. Nice old machine work. The bracket is machined inside and an oil hole is present on top but no babbitt is seen.
