The machine pictured was obtained through a Craigslist ad from 2500 miles away! The former owner, HJM Precision, Inc. of Troy, NY, was commendably cooperative in helping this "old iron" enthusiast re-home their 900+ lb. antique hacksaw, and they truly made the low-dollar trade possible (if not necessarily sensible!) Since the old machine is in very good to excellent condition, however, it will actually be used for historic preservation work... saving old brick structures from collapse by fitting custom steel skeletons inside the walls.

Information on these long obsolete 6"x6" "Universal" machines was kindly supplied by the modern Peerless Machine & Tool Corporation, along with permission to post the literature they supplied online - an attitude towards customer service that really is "peerless" these days and should help them sell their latest machines to new clients!

Elsewhere on this site I've posted the Operating Manual, machine diagrams and parts lists sent to me by Peerless. All of these original materials were lightly cleaned up and edited digitally, by me, for enhanced clarity. They were then combined into a single PDF file for ease of downloading. If there are more of these splendid hacksaws out there, I hope the docs will help save them from the breakers!
