These curvacious castings was recently spotted on a well-known international on-line auction service and are the first example of a machine by this Chicago-based maker. The current owner explained that the machine was bought new by the Elkhart Machine & Foundry Co. and used by them until their business closed. He acquired the machine at auction in 2004. The internet only shows remnants of the former company, so my keyboard was dusted off and I consulted the WayBackMachine:

Sure enough.... Elkhart Foundry was a Meehanite-certified firm and closed their doors in 2004. Their facilities included 3 30-ton electric furnaces and a 3-ton coreless furnace. The later web pages indicate that only minor repairs would be dine to foundry patterns, and any actual pattern work was being contracted to outside patternmakers.

The machine itself sports a total bed length of 7' and has 21" knives. The machine also runs very well. Posted with John Fuller's (owner) permission.
