It's time to update this listing with new photos and info.

This is a nice 199 planer. The person I bought it from had apparently rescued it from life in a somewhat less than weatherproof situation. When I got it the sectional feed roller and the sectional chip breaker were frozen, and the bed had some pitting. I pulled it all apart and cleaned it up, and now it functions perfectly. More commonly these planers had a direct drive 5 hp motor, but as an option they could be had set up for belt drive. This is one of those, and now it's powered by a 10 hp motor mounted on the floor. The only disadvantage of the 199 is that it doesn't have a variable feed rate. Otherwise, it's a great planer.

I adapted my Quicksharp grinder to be able to sharpen the knives in the head. To index the knives I found a Powermatic planer arbor lock on ebay (with a tip from a fellow owwmer-thanks!). I mounted it on the cutterhead bearing cap and turned a shaft collar with the appropriate slots for the detent on the arbor lock.

The belt guard is another of my wacky wood creations. The curved part is made from Italian bending plywood (wacky wood).

This planer is no longer in my stable.
