I have been looking for a lathe made by the F.E.Reed Co. for some time and was delighted to find this one on Ebay. It arrived in excellent condition and will be running soon. Sadly, the lathe did not come with legs, which are always beautiful on these Worcester lathes. Usually the name is cast into the legs, but luckily, F.E. Reed is stamped into the top of the tailstock. I believe that all the Worcester lathe companys had their parts cast by the F.E. Reed Co., which operated a large foundry. I have an L. Robbins lathe and the bed is identical. The head and tailstock are almost identical except for the size. Both lathes have the same phosphor bronze bearings. In the late 1800's the F.E. Reed Co. primarily made metal lathes, and the same standards that went into their metal lathes, went into their woodworking lathes.
