Pictured is a Richardson Meriam & Co. Daniels planer at the Slater Mill Historic site in Pawtucket Road Island. The usual name plate is missing but its one time location is visible. The cutter head is clearly cast with the Richardson & Meriam name.
The Slater Mill is a must see for any enthusiast of water power, line shafting, or flat belt wood and metal working machinery. While not original to the site the collection of machinery is impressive. Once an important textile manufactory, several of the original buildings have been preserved and filled with pertinent collections. The machine shop is powered by a recreation of the original large waterwheel. Its design was determined through careful archaeological excavation. An impressive set up!
